Counselling

Brief psychodynamic therapy/counselling: this is based on the same theoretical principles that inform open-ended psychodynamic therapy but focuses on particular issues identified during the assessment process. By agreeing to engage in brief psychodynamic therapy we agree that we will concentrate on the exploration of particular problematic areas and that resolution of conflicts associated with these areas will orientate the treatment. Quite frequently such a goal-oriented and time-limited exercise offers invaluable insights into one’s own psyche that will inform and determine future existential choices. It is important to note that although such treatment is goal-oriented, it is not focused upon symptoms and symptomatic behaviours but the deeper unconscious structures and processes that underpin and sustain them. The frequency of sessions varies between 1-3/week and the duration of therapy between 4-8 months. Each session lasts approximately 50 minutes.

Open-ended psychodynamic therapy: this is for people who feel ready to commit to long term psychotherapy and have demonstrated a strong desire to explore their own mental and emotional life. It is also for those who have experienced the benefits of a brief therapy and would like to build on this. Frequency of sessions is 1-3/week. Duration of each session variable between 40-60 minutes.

On-line video conferencing therapy sessions (skype): From the beginning of 2013 onwards this service will be available to those who, due to financial or geographical restrictions, are unable to have face to face therapy. It will be open to those who have completed at least 12 face to face sessions already and are also able to have at least another 6 face to face sessions in any one year. Frequency of sessions 1-3/week. Each session will last approximately 50 minutes.

All therapies are for individuals only. I do not do Couples or Group therapy. I will gladly see people who want help with their relationships but it’s important to remember that your therapy is about you in relation with other people, not your relationships with other people.

Fees:

Psychodynamic assessment: £150/hour. Psychiatric and substance misuse consultations: £120/session. Therapy average fee: £70/session. On-line therapy fee: £50/session.
